1. Who We Are

CosDates ("CosDates," "we," "us," or "our") is a dating and connection platform built for cosplayers. Our service is available at cosdates.com and through our mobile applications (when available). For privacy questions, contact us at privacy@cosdates.com.

2. Information We Collect

Information you give us directly:

• Name and display name
• Email address
• Date of birth (to verify you are 18+)
• Profile photos and cosplay portfolio images
• Bio and profile content
• Fandom tags, characters cosplayed, skill level
• Connection intent settings
• Messages sent to matched users
• Convention attendance information
• Payment information (processed by Stripe — we do not store card numbers)

Information collected automatically:

• IP address and general location (city/country level)
• Device type and browser information
• Pages visited and features used within the app
• Match and like activity (to power recommendations)

Information from third-party sign-in (Discord, Google, Apple): When you sign in with a third-party account, we receive your email address and display name from that provider. We do not receive your passwords or payment information from those services.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To create and manage your CosDates account
• To power fandom-first matching between users
• To facilitate messaging between matched users
• To moderate content and enforce our community standards
• To send you notifications about matches, messages, and platform updates
• To process subscription payments through Stripe
• To respond to support requests and safety reports
• To improve the platform based on usage patterns (anonymized and aggregated)
• To send you the CosDates waitlist newsletter if you opted in

We do not sell your personal information. Ever. Full stop.

4. Who We Share Your Information With

We share information only with the following categories of third parties, and only to the extent necessary to operate the service:

• Supabase — our database and authentication provider
• Stripe — payment processing for Hero subscriptions
• Resend — transactional email delivery
• AI moderation services — photo scanning for prohibited content (images are not stored by these services beyond the scan)
• Law enforcement — only when legally required or when necessary to prevent imminent harm

5. Your Profile and What Other Users See

Your public profile (display name, photos, bio, fandoms, characters, skill level, upcoming cons, and connection intents) is visible to other registered CosDates users. Your email address, date of birth, payment information, and private messages are never visible to other users.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it longer (e.g., financial records required for tax purposes).

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

• Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
• Correction — request that inaccurate data be corrected
• Deletion — request that your account and associated data be deleted
• Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format
• Opt-out of marketing emails — use the unsubscribe link in any email we send

8. Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you logged in and maintain your session. We do not use advertising tracking cookies or sell cookie data to third parties. You can disable cookies in your browser, but doing so will prevent you from staying logged in.

9. Children's Privacy

CosDates is strictly an 18+ platform. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we discover that a user is under 18, their account will be immediately terminated and their data deleted. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us at safety@cosdates.com immediately.

10. Security

We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted data storage, HTTPS-only transmission, and regular security reviews. However, no internet service is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password and to report any suspicious activity to safety@cosdates.com.

11. Changes to This Policy

We will notify you of material changes to this Privacy Policy via email and by posting the updated policy on this page. Continued use of CosDates after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
